Vinny & Skinny: What’s next for Palmer, Cardinals’ QB room?

Like the Arizona Cardinals, Vinny & Skinny saw the team’s 33-0 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London as a turning point to look to the future.
If there was any positive, it’s that a bye week comes at a much-needed time.
“You could argue the Cardinals took a bye week last week,” Vince Marotta said on the Week 8 edition of Vinny & Skinny presented by Arizona Central Credit Union.
Starting quarterback Carson Palmer’s broken arm suffered in the game leads to an immediate future of Drew Stanton at the controls of the offense following the bye, but the loss also leads to big-picture thinking.
Is this it for Palmer?
“He had surgery today and he went and got a second opinion. The thought process is he’s a quick healer. I know he doesn’t want to go out this way, and he deserves better,” Mike Jurecki said. “They’re going to hold a roster spot for him. Whether this is his final year, it’s going to be a Cardinal decision, not a Palmer decision.”
That leads to wondering if new second-string quarterback Blaine Gabbert will earn a look if things go further south for the Cardinals.
“What I’m hearing is they’re very intrigued with Blaine Gabbert,” Jurecki said. “He’d be a viable option to start next year or be a backup quarterback.”
Every week, Vinny & Skinny will break down the Arizona Cardinals’ previous game and look ahead at their upcoming matchup.
