The Arizona Diamondbacks placed relief pitcher Kenyan Middleton on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a strained right ankle.
Middleton, 28, has made 12 appearances for the D-backs this season. Across 11.0 innings pitched, the right-hander has allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks for a strong 1.64 ERA and 0.727 WHIP.
The D-backs signed Middleton to a minor league contract in December after Middleton’s one season with the Seattle Mariners. He had previously spent his first four seasons in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels and has 148 career MLB appearances.
Taking Middleton’s spot on the roster is right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski, who was selected from Triple-A Reno.
The 31-year-old has pitched in eight games for Arizona and has given up seven runs (all earned) for an 8.59 ERA. Devenski had pitched the last five years in Houston for the Astros, where he was an All-Star as a reliever in 2017.
