New Diamondbacks vice president and general manager Mike Hazen has added more Boston influence to Arizona’s front office.

The D-backs on Tuesday announced the hiring of Red Sox vice president of amateur and international scouting Amiel Sawdaye as senior VP and assistant general manager. The Boston Herald’s Evan Drellich was first to report the addition.

Sawdaye was in the running to assume the assistant general manager job with Boston and was also linked to the Minnesota Twins’ general manager opening, sources told Drellich.

Sawdaye’s stature in the baseball ops world grew as he put together Boston’s impressive farm system.

According to the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier and Peter Abraham, Boston offered Sawdaye an assistant general manager role under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski but not the GM role — they may not even fill that position.

It was expected that Hazen, who worked with Sawdaye in the Red Sox front office, could recruit new Arizona employees from his former team, and that fact doesn’t end with the hiring of Sawdaye. Hazen is still expected to consider bench coach Torey Lovullo for the Diamondbacks’ manager position.

Drellich reports Arizona has yet to reach out to the Red Sox with an interview request, but that could come soon.
