The Arizona Diamondbacks made their first round of September call-ups Friday, adding depth to their roster.
Pitcher Braden Shipley and catcher John Ryan Murphy were called up from Triple-A Reno, as well as relievers Silvino Bracho and J.J. Hoover.
Infielder and outfielder Kristopher Negron was selected from Reno. With Negron not being on the 40-man roster, the team needed to make room for Negron and released pitcher Rubby De La Rosa in order to do so.
Shipley has struggled at both levels this season. In his five appearances with Arizona in 2017, he’s allowed 12 earned runs in 17 innings. In 19 starts for Reno, Shipley has a record of 7-6 with a 5.66 ERA.
The 26-year-old Murphy was acquired from the Minnesota Twins in late July. He has 141 games of Major League experience over four seasons, hitting .238 in that span.
Negron has played every position for the Aces except for catcher, with a majority of his time spent in right field, center field and at third base.
The 31-year-old has nearly 100 games of Major League experience to his name over three seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. Since June 9, Negron has hit .335 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI.
De La Rosa made nine relief appearances for the D-backs this season. He had surgery on his right elbow on Aug. 21.
Bracho, 25, has had several trips up and down from the D-backs and Reno rosters. On the season for Arizona, Bracho has allowed eight earned runs in 14.2 innings for a 4.91 ERA.
Hoover has been used more than Bracho by the D-backs, pitching 33.2 innings and giving up 16 earned runs.
The D-backs’ active roster now has 30 players and the 40-man roster remains at 40.
