While the Arizona Diamondbacks are in the market for pitching at the trade deadline, they may also try to acquire some offensive help.

According to a tweet by Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman, the Chicago Cubs are trying to move first baseman Carlos Pena, and the D-backs could be interested.

Despite only hitting .221 this season, Pena has 20 home runs and 51 RBI. The D-backs could use the power Pena would provide and could also use help at first base where they lack experience.

While Pena’s power and name may be attractive he may not be the right player to help the D-backs pass the San Francisco Giants.

The first baseman is only hitting .143 at Chase Field this season and is not hitting above .200 against any National League West opponent except for the Colorado Rockies.

However, there are conflicting reports as Sports 620 KTAR’s John Gambadoro says the team is not interested and is content with Xavier Nady at first base.

“Contrary to various reports the Diamondbacks have NO interest in Cubs 1B Carlos Pena. Look for Xavier Nady to get some more time at 1B” — John Gambadoro
