Varsho, Pimentel earn monthly minor league honors for D-backs

The Arizona Diamondbacks have awarded catcher Daulton Varsho and pitcher Chester Pimentel the organization’s minor league player and pitcher of the month for August.
During the month of August, Varsho went on a hitting tear with the Double-A Jackson Generals batting .391/.436/.707 with seven doubles, six home runs, 17 RBI and 26 runs in 24 games.
The postseason All-Star out of Chili, Wisconsin, reached base safely in 21 of those 24 games and was named the Southern League player of the week for the week of Aug. 11.
Varsho led the Southern League in average, runs, total bases (65), slugging percentage and OPS (1.143).
Pimentel, a non-draft signee in 2014, went 0-1 with a 0.86 ERA, a .159 opponent average and 30 strikeouts in seven appearances for the Class-A Kane County Cougars.
The Villa Fundacion, D.R., native ranked fourth in the Midwest League in ERA and WHIP (0.76).
Varsho and Pimentel received the honor of eight other pitchers and position players nominated by each affiliate.
