Watch: The moment Corbin Carroll found out about Diamondbacks call-up

Aug 29, 2022, 5:12 PM

It’s every baseball player’s dream to get called up to the big leagues.

And for Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll, that dream became a reality on Monday.

But before the D-backs No. 1 prospect was officially selected from Triple-A Reno, Aces manager Gil Velazquez on Sunday had the honor of being the first to tell Carroll he was going to The Show.

The No. 16 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft was getting prepared to go into the game for an injured Reno left fielder when Velazquez told the Aces that Carroll “wasn’t going to be here tomorrow.”

Obviously with the recently-turned 22-year-old in good health, that could only mean one thing: he was getting called up, which was met with congratulations and hugs from his teammates.

“Surreal,” Carroll said prior to making his MLB debut on Monday. “Just a lot of hard work at this point obviously. Now that it’s finally here — it’s a cool feeling. This is what I want to do and this is the stage I want to do it on. So to finally be able to say that, it means a lot.”

The left-handed hitting and throwing outfielder will be starting in right field and batting eighth for the D-backs against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Catch all the action at 6:40 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
