Miami hasn’t been a great place for members of the 2018-19 Phoenix Suns to spend their offseason.
Center Richaun Holmes, who is slated to become a free agent June 30, was booked in South Florida on a marijuana possession charge on Wednesday evening. He was named as “Richard Diante Holmes” on an arrest affidavit.
Holmes, along with James Webb, were arrested on misdemeanor charges of cannabis possession of 20 grams or less. Webb spent some time with the Brooklyn Nets last season.
Both men posted bond after a short stay in jail Wednesday.
The pair were backseat passengers in a 2015 Cadillac, which was pulled over for the driver not wearing a seatbelt.
An officer noticed smoke that smelled like burnt marijuana, and after the passengers exited the vehicle, the police found a joint of an estimated 3 grams “smoldering in a cupholder” next to Holmes and Webb.
Holmes is the second member of last season’s Suns team to get arrested in Miami. Forward Josh Jackson was arrested May 10 on charges of escape and resisting arrest after running away from police in handcuffs when he was detained at the Rolling Loud festival.
Holmes averaged 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in 70 contests for the Suns last year. He was acquired in a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers last July.
