Suns guard De’Anthony Melton exits game with right ankle injury

Already down two big men and one of their top scorers, the Phoenix Suns were hit with another injury Thursday night.

Suns guard De’Anthony Melton left the team’s home game against the Portland Trail Blazers after suffering an ankle injury.

The guard did not return with a right ankle sprain.

The rookie exited the game with 8:10 remaining in the third quarter after making a tip-in basket before landing awkwardly on a Trail Blazers player.

He was in visible pain as he grabbed his ankle on the court.

Melton would head to the bench soon after the injury before heading to the locker room with the help of Richaun Holmes.

He exited with two points and two rebounds.

Entering play Thursday, Melton has played in 32 games (starting 24), averaging 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

The latest injury adds to the recent woes the team has faced.

On Tuesday, T.J. Warren was ruled out with right ankle soreness.

According to the team, the forward is expected to miss two-to-three weeks with the bone bruise. He will not take part in any basketball activities during that time.

Before tipoff on Thursday, the team also announced Deandre Ayton and Holmes were out with left and right ankle sprains, respectively.

The Suns fell to the Trail Blazers, 120-106.
