Pac-12 Tournament schedule: ASU is 8th seed, to play Stanford

Mar 5, 2022, 2:59 PM | Updated: 4:54 pm

Arizona State overcame an early nine-point deficit to defeat the visiting Stanford Cardinal on Saturday 65-56.

ASU closed out the regular season with seven wins in eight games — including four straight — to finish 14-16 overall and 10-10 in conference games.

The Sun Devils will be the No. 8 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament for the second straight year.

ASU will face Stanford again at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Las Vegas. The Sun Devils could have jumped up to the No. 7 seed had Washington State lost to Oregon, but the Cougars took care of business at home Saturday afternoon.

Getting the No. 7 seed would have put Arizona State on the opposite end of the bracket from top-seeded Arizona. Instead, the Sun Devils will face the Wildcats on Thursday if they defeat the Cardinal once again.

Arizona swept ASU during the regular season.

Stanford led the Sun Devils 32-30 at halftime on Saturday, but the Sun Devils opened the second half with a 13-5 run. Stanford never went away, even after ASU went on a run to take a 61-52 lead late in the second half. The Cardinal cut the deficit to five, but did not get closer.

Marreon Jackson led ASU with 18 points on Senior Day to pair with six steals. Kimani Lawrence, who has the most games played in ASU history, scored six points in his final home game in Tempe. He threw down a windmill dunk as an exclamation point in the final minute.

ASU and Stanford split the season series this year.
