Arizona State football landed Clemson wide receiver Noble Johnson in the transfer portal on Sunday.

The redshirt freshman played in 13 games for the Tigers the past two seasons and has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2, 214-pound receiver was a former four-star recruit in high school but saw limited playing time and recorded three catches for a combined 16 yards in 2024.

In 2023, he appeared in four games but played only 13 offensive snaps.

Clemson and Arizona State could potentially meet in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game in Atlanta on Jan. 1 if the Tigers upset No. 5 Texas on Saturday.

Johnson is the first player to transfer into Arizona State since the transfer portal opened on Dec. 9. The winter portal closes on Dec. 28. A group of current Sun Devils entered their names in the portal.

Who is Noble Johnson?

Johnson is a native of Rockwall, Texas (near Dallas), and attended Rockwall High School.

He was the No. 383 overall prospect, No. 94 receiver in the country and the 99th-ranked player in Texas in the 2023 class, per 247Sports.

Johnson committed in June 2022 and picked Clemson after having offers from the likes of Texas A&M, USC, Michigan, Colorado, Ole Miss, Miami and Tennessee.

He was arrested and charged with reckless driving near Clemson’s campus in February of 2024, per The State’s Chapel Fowler. He was allegedly driving 71 mph in a 35 mph zone and crashed into another vehicle that did not yield. The incident sent Johnson and two others to the hospital. The other vehicle’s driver was cited for not yielding and driving without a license.

The Clemson University Police Department issued a reckless driving arrest warrant for Johnson five days after the incident. Johnson turned himself in on the same day the warrant was issued.
