Rachaad White’s 237 all-purpose yards lead ASU to win over Washington

The Arizona State Sun Devils offense did what it does best on Saturday night: run the football.

ASU running back Rachaad White posted a whopping 237 all-purpose yards in a 35-30 road win over the Washington Huskies.

The senior running back also had two rushing touchdowns on a rainy night at Huskies Stadium in Seattle.

“We got ourselves in a bad way early in this game and then we just kept pecking away at it and found a way,” head coach Herm Edwards said postgame. “Our running game was obviously very good.”

“[Our record is] pretty good when we rush the ball for 250-plus,” he added. “… We’ve won a lot of games by rushing the ball and tonight was one of those games we needed to rush it.”

White almost had a third rushing score, but a penalty negated what would’ve been a 47-yard TD run.

The called-back touchdown marks the second Sun Devils rushing TD of over 45 yards to be taken off the scoreboard in the last three games.

Coincidentally, both have come against the Washington schools, as ASU quarterback Jayden Daniels had a 56-yard rushing score brought back against Washington State on Oct. 30.

As a team, the Sun Devils compiled a total of 376 yards on offense, 90 of which came through the air and 286 on the ground.

White led all rushers with 184 rushing yards on 32 carries for an average 5.8 yards per attempt.

The senior RB was also Arizona State’s leading pass-catcher with 53 receiving yards on five receptions, one of which came on an astounding grab by White.

White was able to carry the Sun Devils on his back despite starting right guard Henry Hattis being replaced by Spencer Lovell.

“He is special and I think the more he carries the ball, the more we get to watch how special he is as a runner,” Edwards said.
