TUCSON — ASU football relied on stars Cam Skattebo and Jordyn Tyson to score four straight touchdowns to start Saturday’s 49-7 Territorial Cup win in Tucson.
Of the 148 yards across the game’s first two drives, Skattebo and Tyson accounted for 119 yards with Skattebo punching in both scores from close range.
Four of the Sun Devils’ first six plays were Skattebo runs, tallying up to 32 yards before he later took in the touchdown out of a wildcat look.

Tyson had an 11-yard grab to keep the first drive moving along after an earlier six-yard completion. It was on the next drive that he did the real damage, though.
He found space in the Arizona defense on a crossing route and sprinted down the sideline while making a defender collapse off a hesitation move to set up a first-and-goal with his 59-yard gain. Two Skattebo rushes later and the Sun Devils were up 14-0.
The early success moved Tyson across the 1,000-yard mark on the season, which no Sun Devil has done since Brandon Aiyuk (1,192 yards in 2019).
Arizona State kept the foot on the gas on its third drive, as Skattebo broke off a 34-yard gain on the first play of the series. Then after Kyson Brown had a tough run for 27 yards, Tyson collected his first score of the day on a quick pass from 13 yards out.
Tyson was forced to exit the game with an apparent left arm injury in the third quarter, but still led the Sun Devils in receptions (eight) and yards (143).
ASU’s defense was almost completely shutting down Arizona, which gained 29 yards on its first 10 plays with just three first downs and no points to show for it.
Arizona stayed scoreless despite a 61-yard kick return on the next kickoff due to a missed field goal by Tyler Loop from 55 yards out.
When the ASU offense was out there again, it was Skattebo again, punching it in from close range again to go up 28-0. It was the second straight week with three first-half touchdowns for the running back, who closed the contest with 177 yards on 21 carries.
Skattebo was rewarded with the 2024 Bob Moran Award, which recognizes the Territorial Cup game MVP.
