The look was modeled by Atlanta-area native Jeff Clark Jr., a defensive lineman making his return to the deep South.
Dating to the win over BYU, this is the fourth straight game with Sparky on the helmet for ASU, which athletic director Graham Rossini implied would continue as long as the run did.
“Our players have a huge voice in the uniform combinations. The Pat Tillman Leadership Council is the group that really sits down and kind of maps out the uniforms, and now we’re playing with house money with some additional games. We’re all superstitious in sports, everybody can agree with that, and so we’re riding the hot hand with the Sparky helmet,” Rossini told Arizona Sports’ State of the Sun Devils Podcast earlier this month.
“Sparky’s our mascot. Sparky’s been a big part of our identity. There’s this notion of bringing Sparky back, Sparky’s always been here. This is a celebrated mascot in our space,” Rossini continued. “Maroon and gold are our colors. We embrace that. … Sparky is iconic. We love any chance that we get to showcase Sparky.”
