Arizona Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch announced at Pac-12 media day in Los Angeles on Friday transfer quarterback Jayden de Laura will take the starting reps for the team.
When asked who would be starting at QB in 2022, Fisch left a concise answer for reporters.
“Jayden will take all the reps with the ones,” Fisch said.
De Laura had a phenomenal 2021 season at Washington State, completing 63.2% of his passes for 2,798 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
De Laura was the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year as a second year freshman thanks to the pandemic-impacted 2020 season.
The Cougars had a tumultuous year after their head coach and offensive coordinator were removed in the middle of the season after failing to comply with the state’s COVID-19 mandate.
The QB looks to add stability to an Arizona program that finished 1-11 last season in Fisch’s first year. De Laura will have notable targets as one of the nation’s best wideouts, Jacob Cowing, will be arriving in Tucson.
He played three seasons at UTEP, recording 141 catches for 2,595 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also added 75 yards rushing and one touchdown in just four attempts.
In his last season at UTEP, Cowing’s 1,354 receiving yards ranked ninth in all of college football.
Cowing joins freshman WR Tetairoa McMillan, the No. 5 wideout in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.com.
Last season, the Wildcats had Will Plummer, Gunner Cruz and Jordan McCloud all start games at QB.
