Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray: ‘All of this nonsense is not what I’m about’

Feb 14, 2022, 3:51 PM | Updated: 6:32 pm

It’s been a little over a week since it was unearthed that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray did a near-complete Instagram scrub.

Since then, reports have circulated regarding Murray’s standing with the team.

On Monday, the quarterback broke his silence.

“I play this game for the love of it, my teammates, everyone who has helped me get to this position that believed in me and to win championships,” Murray posted on Twitter and Instagram.

“All of this nonsense is not what I’m about, never has been, never will be. Anyone who has ever stepped between those lines with me knows how hard I go. Love me or hate me but I’m going to continue to grow and get better.”

The statement from Murray comes after the Cardinals issued one of their own on Sunday backing the signal caller following reports of the team and Murray being frustrated with one another.

On Super Bowl Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported there has been an “odd vibe” with the Cardinals and a “frustrated” Murray following the team’s stumbling end to the season that closed with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Wild Card Weekend.

Mortensen added that Murray feels as if he’s been the scapegoat following the Cardinals’ playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams, who were set to play in the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Veterans on the team are hoping to reach out to Murray on how to handle adversity, according to Mortensen.

Sources also told the reporter that Murray is described as self-centered, immature and a finger-pointer.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network followed up by reporting that Murray and the Cardinals have yet to have a “big picture” meeting since the season’s end. One of the big storylines surrounding the Cardinals this offseason is a potential extension for the signal caller.

In his third NFL season, Murray, the first overall pick in 2019, threw for 3,787 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as Arizona went 11-6. He was named to his second career Pro Bowl for his efforts.

He added 423 yards on the ground with five additional touchdowns.
