Cut from the Arizona Cardinals’ active roster Monday, running back Tavien Feaster re-joined the team’s practice squad Wednesday.

Feaster, a 23-year-old out of South Carolina, signed with the Cardinals for training camp and the preseason but didn’t make the 53-man roster. He then was added the team’s practice squad on Oct. 5.

Because Arizona moved starting running back Chase Edmonds to the injured reserve before a Sunday loss to the Carolina Panthers, Feaster was signed to the active roster on Saturday to provide a third back behind James Conner and Eno Benjamin.

Arizona’s release of Feaster indicated that second-year man Jonathan Ward is close to returning to action having missed the past two games with a concussion.

Ward was not placed on injured reserve and, if he is back, could provide depth this Sunday for a road game against the Seattle Seahawks.

At the top of the running back food chain since Edmonds went down early on Nov. 7 against the San Francisco 49ers, Conner went from nearly splitting snaps to taking on more than three-fourths of the available offensive plays during the past two weeks.

Benjamin over that same two-game span has taken 32 snaps, about a quarter of the possessions for Arizona.
