Cardinals show off ‘My Cause My Cleats’ designs for MNF vs. Rams

For the second consecutive year, the Arizona Cardinals will be wearing custom-designed cleats in a home matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

And with this week’s contest being in primetime on Monday Night Football, all eyes will be on the Cardinals as they show off their footwear dedicated to the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” initiative.

Over a dozen Cardinals players will be rocking cause-dedicated cleats that cover over a dozen different organizations and foundations.

Some specific causes include cancer, human rights, youth education and youth health/wellness.

Defensive lineman Corey Peters will be supporting his foundation — the Peters Educational Enrichment Project — which works with elementary school children to help encourage reading and aid in filling in the gaps, especially during the holidays.

“That’s just been one of the biggest things for me throughout my life: teachers, coaches, people who I’ve met through schools have had the biggest influence on my life, especially as far as it relates to football,” Peters said Saturday.

“I’ve had high school football coaches who drove lots of kids home and really dedicated their time for no money — just to help us out. So I feel it’s my responsibility to kinda pay that forward and continue to try to help kids that may need this or that. And my foundation tries to figure out how we can be the most helpful and then do that.”

Center Rodney Hudson will be wearing customized cleats to raise awareness for autism.

“I actually have a godson that has autism, so it’s always been something that’s always on my heart,” he said Saturday.

All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ cleats will bring attention to domestic violence for the non-profit organization SMOOOTH, while linebacker Isaiah Simmons will be rocking cleats that call for social justice for Black Lives Matter.

Linebacker Jordan Hicks and offensive lineman Max Garcia will both be supporting the International Justice Mission, which aims to combat human trafficking.

“It’s an organization that I’ve been able to be a part of with mission trips to the Dominican Republic and they combat sex trafficking, child labour, a multitude of things,” Garcia said Thursday.

“Just fighting for human rights I think is something that is very important and we’ve seen it explode in the last few years. So that’s something I feel like I want to be a part of, that I have been a part of and something that means something to me.”

Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum’s cause is the arts and will represent the Phoenix Art Museum.

Players will have the option to put their cleats up for auction for fans to bid on after Monday night’s contest, with all proceeds going to the players’ respective causes.
