Arizona Cardinals sign former Bengals OT Andre Smith

Mar 16, 2018, 3:02 PM | Updated: 9:10 pm

Former Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith officially signed with the Arizona Cardinals Friday.

The two-year deal is for $8 million, but could be worth up to $10.2 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Smith is a nine-year NFL veteran who was drafted 6th overall in 2009 by the Bengals. The Alabama alumnus spent all but one season in Cincinnati, going to the Minnesota Vikings for a season in 2016. Smith has 99 career games played with 85 starts, and has appeared in 14 or more games in a season four times.

His arrival in Arizona would bolster an offensive line that allowed the fourth-most sacks in the NFL last year with 52. The Cardinals saw injuries to quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton, paving the way for Blaine Gabbert to make five starts. In 2018, Arizona will have the oft-injured Sam Bradford as its signal-caller as it was reported Tuesday that the former first-overall pick would sign with the Cardinals.

Offensive linemen Alex Boone, Khalif Barnes and Earl Watford are among Arizona’s unrestricted free agents on the offensive line.
