Arizona Cardinals to induct QB Carson Palmer into Ring of Honor

Jun 4, 2019, 9:21 AM | Updated: 11:47 am

The Arizona Cardinals will add an 18th member to its Ring of Honor at State Farm Stadium when they induct former quarterback Carson Palmer this season.

The ceremony will take place at halftime of the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 29.

Palmer played five seasons for the Cardinals from 2013 to 2017 and owned a 38-21-1 record for a .642 winning percentage, the best for a starting quarterback in team history. He was a team captain five times and set the single-season franchise record with 13 wins in 2015, the same season the team advanced to the NFC Championship game and had the No. 1-ranked offense in the NFL.

In 60 starts in Arizona, he tossed 105 touchdowns and 57 interceptions.

He is the franchise record-holder for 300-yard passing games (25) and 400-yard passing games (three), and is third in franchise history in both multi-touchdown games (35) and games with a 100-plus passer rating (26). He finished his Cardinals career with a completion percentage of 62.5% (second in team history) with 16,782 yards and a 91.1 passer rating.

What’s more, Palmer received the news via a FaceTime call from team president Michael Bidwill, a video that was posted to the Cardinals’ Twitter account on Tuesday.

“We’re excited to have you,” Bidwill said. “It is very cool and we couldn’t think of anybody who we’d like to honor more. I mean you’ve done so much for the franchise. We’re putting you in the Ring of Honor.”

Palmer, initially responding with shock and happiness, elaborated more on what the honor meant to him.

“I am absolutely honored,” he said. “Five years was not enough for me. I wish I would have gotten there earlier, as you know. But I am beyond honored and I can’t wait. That’s amazing. That’s great news.”

Palmer will become just the third quarterback in the Ring of Honor, joining Jim Hart and Kurt Warner. He’ll be the 16th player and the 18th total member, as two non-players — owner Charles W. Bidwill and coach Jimmy Conzelman — are in as well.
