Arizona Cardinals receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was arrested Wednesday morning on criminal speeding charges, the Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed to KTAR News 92.3 FM and Arizona Sports.
Brown was arrested at 7:05 a.m. heading southbound on Loop 101 driving in an HOV lane, according to DPS spokesman Bart Graves. Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro confirmed that Brown registered at a speed of 126 miles per hour.
He was not present with the team during the portion of Wednesday morning’s practice that was in sight of reporters but has been working back from a hamstring injury slowly since the start of training camp last week.
Brown was later released under his own recognizance Wednesday and has his next hearing scheduled for Aug. 23 at 9 a.m., according to Mark McClune.
Arizona is set to depart for Tennessee on Aug. 23 for a week of practice with the Titans followed by the team’s preseason finale on Aug. 27.
“We are aware of the situation regarding Hollywood Brown and have reported it to the NFL office as required. We will comment further as appropriate,” the Cardinals said in a statement.
Brown was placed on the active non-football injury list the day before training camp began last Wednesday due to the hamstring issue. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said it was more of a precautionary measure before the team pulled Brown off the NFI list on Tuesday.
“We’re just easing him back in. We’re going to start him with the walk-throughs … I’m guessing Monday full-go if everything stays on course,” Kingsbury said Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the head coach said the team was hoping Brown could return by the weekend but the Cardinals wanted to be smart with his health.
With the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, Brown recorded a career-high 1,008 yards and added six touchdowns.
On the first night of the NFL Draft, he and the 100th overall pick owned by Baltimore were traded to the Cardinals for Arizona’s first-round pick.
