The Arizona Cardinals added three players from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s regular season finale against the San Francisco 49ers while placing offensive lineman Jackson Barton on injured reserve, the team announced on Saturday.
Barton took considerable snaps at right tackle in Weeks 3, 16 and 17 as a depth piece for Arizona, frequently receiving call-ups throughout the season as the offensive line dealt with injuries.
The lineman was limited in practice on Friday (ankle) and received a questionable designation for Sunday’s game before the IR move signaled he would miss the contest.
Wide receiver Michael Wilson (hamstring), linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. (ankle/quadricep) and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting (toe) remain questionable after limited practice participation this week.
Which Cardinals were added to active roster from practice squad?
Tony Jones Jr. will be a name familiar to some Arizona fans after he appeared in three games last season, but the running back missed the cut for the 53-man roster this year with a shoulder injury that was thought to be season-ending.
However, Arizona signed the running back to the practice squad on Dec. 18 and elevated him to the active roster on Saturday. The Cardinals’ top two backs, James Conner and Trey Benson, both landed on IR this week leaving Michael Carter to handle RB1 duties.
Safety Andre Chachere is back on the Cardinals’ active roster as well. He contributed 23 special-teams snaps across Weeks 12 and 17 and likely got the elevation due to Murphy-Bunting’s availability being up in the air.
Offensive lineman Luke Tenuta, whose only 24 NFL snaps came as a rookie in 2022, was elevated to fill the void Barton created.
