The Arizona Cardinals showed up to State Farm Stadium on Sunday and laid an egg in a 44-21 loss in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Cardinals struggled to muster much of any offense and seemingly had no answer for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ attack as Kansas City punted only two times in the contest.
Although a majority of Arizona’s roster struggled mightily, wideout Greg Dortch was a bright spot in the lopsided loss.
Dortch saw nine targets and hauled in seven catches for 63 yards. He led Arizona in targets.
“Every time he goes in he tends to find the ball,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters postgame. “He made some catches and will continue to get better.”
Dortch was signed to the active roster after spending last season on the practice squad.
Other highlights included linebacker Dennis Gardeck recording a forced fumble, four tackles and a quarterback hit, while safety Budda Baker led Arizona with 13 tackles.
Quarterback Kyler Murray and the offense also struggled, going 22-of-34 for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back James Conner added the lone score of the first half for the Cardinals, a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown recorded his first touchdown in a Cardinals uniform with a 6-yard receiving touchdown in the fourth quarter that cut the lead to three scores.

Tight end Zach Ertz added a 6-yard touchdown with six minutes remaining in the contest, his first score of the year.
Mahomes finished Sunday throwing 30-of-39 for 360 yards and five touchdowns.
Arizona will travel to the Sin City to take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2.
