Kicker problems: Cardinals’ Matt Prater, Eagles’ Jake Elliott reportedly out

The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles will have two sets of fresh legs for their Week 5 meetup at State Farm Stadium on Sunday. And not under the best of circumstances.

Cardinals kicker Matt Prater will miss the team’s Week 5 game due to a hip injury, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the Eagles will be without starting kicker Jake Elliott, who has an injured ankle.

Both teams have already signed replacement options to their practice squads. They can be elevated before gameday.

The Cardinals on Tuesday signed free agent kicker Matt Ammendola. He appeared in two games this season for the Kansas City Chiefs in place of injured starter Harrison Butker.

Ammendola went 3-of-4 on field goals, missing one from 34 yards. He also missed an extra point in four tries.

Elliott was hit during a kick attempt last week in a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Philadelphia added depth by signing Cameron Dicker to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Prater last Sunday hit two field goals with a long of 39 yards and made two extra points against the Carolina Panthers, but he handed off kickoff duties to running back Eno Benjamin in the middle of the game.

The 38-year-old Prater made all six of his field goal attempts during Arizona’s 2-2 start to the season. He had yet to attempt one beyond 49 yards.

Prater is in his second season with the Cardinals and last year went 30-of-37 on field goals, with a long of 62 yards.
