The Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday made a series of roster moves highlighted by the release of punter Drew Butler and the promotion of recently-signed practice squad replacement Matt Wile to the NFL roster.
Additionally, Arizona elevated third-string quarterback Zac Dysert to the active roster and officially added former Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright. Wright, a rookie, was signed off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.
The team also, as expected, placed safety Tyvon Branch, dollar linebacker Deone Bucannon and right tackle Ulrick John on the injured reserve list.
But the special teams shuffle is the focus of the day’s roster moves.
Wile was added to the practice squad last week, but Butler remained the punter in Arizona’s 26-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
“Guys that we counted on are not getting it done,” Cardinals general manager Steve Keim told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Doug and Wolf on Monday. “Chandler (Catanzaro) has to make kicks and he has to show more consistency. Same with Drew Butler. Those positions will obviously be evaluated and if we need to make changes we’ll do it.”
The Cardinals additionally re-signed linebacker Reshard Cliett to the practice squad Tuesday.
