Arizona Cardinals rookie tight end Trey McBride was named the 2021-22 Mountain West Male Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.

The No. 55 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft from Colorado State was named the John Mackey Award winner this last year, recognizing the top tight end in the country.

McBride also became the program’s first-ever unanimous All-American.

As a senior, McBride set career marks which also led all FBS tight ends in receiving yards (1,121), catches (90) and yards per game (93.4) to go along with one touchdown.

McBride also broke the school’s all-time and single-season record in receptions and yards for tight ends. His yards became the fifth-most by a tight end in Mountain West history.

“The guy can do it all,” general manager Steve Keim said after the draft.

“He’s got tremendous hands, great catching radius, really strong in the crowd. Character is off the charts, three-time captain, phenomenal leader. Just thankful he was there.”

McBride became Colorado States third MW Athlete of the Year award winner and first since the 2014-15 season.

He joins a tight end room of Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams.

Williams is coming off of a season ending knee injury, so McBride could see time on the field immediately to open his rookie campaign.
