The Arizona Cardinals saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Sunday with a 31-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

They also saw a sight that’s become all-too-common lately: a running back hobbling off the field.

Sunday, it was Chase Edmonds who left the contest early with a hamstring injury. Edmonds joins David Johnson and D.J. Foster as injured running backs on the Arizona roster, so Monday morning, general manager Steve Keim did something about it.

The Cardinals have agreed to acquire running back Kenyan Drake from the Miami Dolphins for a conditional 2020 draft pick. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are sending the Dolphins a conditional sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-rounder.

Drake, 25, had been the subject of recent trade rumors as the Dolphins continue to shape their roster for the future. The former third-round pick has run for 147 yards on 47 carries this season. He’s also a capable target out of the backfield, catching 22 passes for 174 yards.

According to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro, Drake was offered a new contract by the Dolphins “but wanted out of that toxic environment.” Gambadoro also reported the Cardinals also would’ve liked to have Jets DE Leonard Williams, who was reportedly traded to the Giants, but they didn’t have the cap room for him.

Schefter believes Drake could be in line for a sizable workload Thursday night when the Cardinals host the San Francisco 49ers at State Farm Stadium.

Edmonds’ status is unknown at this point, and Johnson, who carried only once in Arizona’s win over the Giants in Week 7 before being inactive Sunday vs. the Saints, has already been rumored to be out Thursday.
