A bombshell dropped on Monday with Arizona Cardinals star cornerback Patrick Peterson requesting a trade, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro spoke with former members of the Cardinals to find out more regarding the thought process behind the report.
According to those teammates, Peterson isn’t interested in a rebuilding situation.
“He wants to win a championship before he retires or have an opportunity to win,” one former Cardinal told Gambadoro.
For Peterson, this has nothing to do with anything besides winning.
“Oh now I do know he loves the coaches … speaks highly of Wilks,” one former Cardinal told Gambadoro.
The culture and players around Peterson have led to the request, according to a former Cardinal.
Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks refused the notion the team will consider trading Peterson.
“We’re not trading Patrick,” he said on Monday. “That’s out of the question.”
Peterson’s cousin Bryant McFadden tweeted that Peterson prefers to land on the New Orleans Saints.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and Houston Texans defensive back Tyrann Mathieu have been quick to recruit Peterson on Twitter.

A seven-time Pro Bowler, the 28-year-old Peterson is under contract with the Cardinals through the 2020 season.
The NFL trade deadline is on Oct. 30.
