Kyler Murray crosses fingers Cardinals draft CeeDee Lamb

Mar 6, 2020, 8:28 AM

There are NFL Draft prospect visits to take in and more film to pore over for the Arizona Cardinals front office.

But ask quarterback Kyler Murray, and he’s done all the evaluating needed. He appears decided on who he would take with the eighth overall pick if it were up to him: fellow Oklahoma Sooner CeeDee Lamb.

Murray on Thursday retweeted a highlight video of a Lamb touchdown from 2019 with a fingers crossed emoji.

A fan joked that Murray was trying to make the decision for the Cardinals. Murray, though, is just hoping.

Cardinals general manager Steve Keim hinted on Arizona Sports’ Doug & Wolf this offseason that Murray had been blowing up his phone about the potential for Arizona to draft the Oklahoma wide receiver.

“From my text stream you can tell Kyler likes him,” Keim said.

Murray is now making that a public campaign.

At 6-foot-2, Lamb has the profile to join Arizona as a No. 1 receiver who can win contested balls and add yards after the catch. And it does matter to Keim that Murray can vouch for Lamb, who is one of the top two receiver prospects in this draft alongside Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy.

Lamb put together college seasons of 1,158 and 1,327 yards, respectively, playing with Murray in 2018 and then 2019 OU quarterback Jalen Hurts. The receiver combined for 25 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

For Murray’s own success, adding a talent like Lamb would be helpful. To Keim, other needs along the offensive or defensive lines or at linebacker could take priority with the No. 8 pick.
