TEMPE — Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray watched his worlds somewhat collide this past weekend when Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury was named as a potential head-coaching target for the signal caller’s alma mater Oklahoma.

Murray doesn’t have a favorite to land the recently vacated job left behind by his former college coach Lincoln Riley.

He does, however, have an idea on where his current coach’s head is at.

“I know Kliff. I don’t really buy into it,” Murray said after practice Wednesday. “I think he’s got a pretty good job right now.”

Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons wasn’t shocked one bit that Kingsbury was linked to the Oklahoma job.

Simmons made sure to get the lowdown once the team reconvened from the bye week.

“I actually went up to him on Monday and I looked at him, ‘Me and you, we in this for the long. So I hope you’re not going nowhere,'” Simmons said. “Definitely love coach Kingsbury and from what he told us, he’s not going anywhere. I hope.

“But obviously want what’s best for him at the end of the day and if he chooses to go, I hope that’s the best for him. It’s just like ball, next guy up, but we would love for him to stay with us for sure.”

EXTRA POINT

– Murray on former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley taking the USC job:

“That’s my guy. He’s a huge reason I went to OU. I’ve been through the ups and downs with him. My family loves him, I love him. I’m happy for him. Obviously, I know Sooner nation is not too fond of his decision and stuff like that.

“But like coach (Bob) Stoops said, no one man makes up the program. We’ve had a ton of guys that’ve come through there and we’ve always been successful, so I think OU will definitely continue to be successful. But as far as coach Riley … I stand by him for sure.”
