Packers’ Allen Lazard put on COVID-19 list, out for Thursday Night Football

Oct 26, 2021, 1:18 PM | Updated: 1:59 pm

Green Bay Packers receiver Allen Lazard joined fellow wideout Davante Adams on the team’s COVID-19 reserve list Tuesday, the team announced.

Lazard, however, is unvaccinated and as a close contact of Adams is by rule sidelined for five days, making him unavailable for the Thursday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Green Bay, however, did get receiver Malik Taylor off the COVID-19 reserve. He has appeared in two games and saw three targets with two catches for 14 yards in the season-opener.

Still the Packers could be without their two top receivers if Adams does not clear protocols by the game.

Vaccinated players and coaches can return after testing negative for coronavirus for two consecutive days. Adams is vaccinated, according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman.

Adams, who has 744 receiving yards through the Packers’ 6-1 start, was placed on the COVID-19 reserve on Monday.

Lazard is behind only Adams and running back Aaron Jones in terms of catches (15) and receiving yards (184). He has two touchdowns this year.

Next up on the receiver depth chart are long-time vet Randall Cobb, who has 14 catches for 179 receiving yards and two scores. Losing Adams and Lazard leaves a void at the position, however.

Not accounting for running backs Jones and A.J. Dillon, or tight ends Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis, the next-most productive target for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this year is Amari Rodgers, who has two catches for 33 yards this year.

The Packers could potentially activate Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) from the injured reserve this week.

Additionally to the two receivers on COVID-19 reserve, Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry will likely miss the Thursday games after testing positive for COVID-19, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Monday.
