PFF: Josh Rosen tops Baker Mayfield’s high grade for rookie QB debut

The woes of the Arizona Cardinals start to the season have been well documented, and led to the decision to bench starting quarterback Sam Bradford.

When one door closes, another door opens and rookie Josh Rosen made the most of what little he had to work with during his first career start in place of Bradford, a 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite sloppy offensive line play and five dropped passes, Rosen’s grade by Pro Football Focus was the highest by anyone on the Cardinals offense at 87.1.

The total was also the highest ever by a rookie starting quarterback since the site started tracking quarterback grades in 2006.

Rosen’s grade surpassed Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield who graded out at 84.3 in his debut against the New York Jets in Week 3.

Unfortunately for Rosen, the rest of the Cardinals offense did not grade out so well. Tight end Ricky Seals-Jones, who graded out with a score of 70.8, was the only player besides Rosen on the Cardinals offense to receive a grade over 70.

Rosen will try again to translate his individual accomplishments to the Cardinals first win of the season as they take on another NFC West opponent, the San Francisco 49ers during their Week 5 matchup.
