Report: Former Chiefs RB Darrel Williams visits with Arizona Cardinals

Apr 4, 2022, 2:39 PM

Free agent running back Darrel Williams recently visited the Arizona Cardinals, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

Williams, 26, just wrapped up his fourth NFL season, all of which have been with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Over 17 games (seven starts) last year, the 5-foot-11, 219-pounder ran the rock 144 times for 558 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs. He also set career marks in catches (47), receiving yards (452) and receiving touchdowns (two).

With Chase Edmonds’ departure to the Miami Dolphins, the Cardinals are in the market for a pass-catching running back to pair alongside James Conner.

Conner, who signed a three-year deal with Arizona this offseason, is expected to receive the bulk of the carries this upcoming season.

Outside of Conner, the Cardinals’ running back room features Eno Benjamin, Jonathan Ward and Jaylen Samuels. Samuels, who was not on the Cardinals last season, is the only other running back not named Conner currently on the roster with at least 100 carries.

Benjamin and Ward have combined for 43 rushing attempts in their two-year careers.

Of the two, Benjamin has seen the most work on offense, rushing for 118 yards and a score on 34 carries. Ward has just nine carries for 33 yards but does have a receiving touchdown to go along with three catches and 34 receiving yards.

The news of Williams’ visit with the Cardinals comes after the team signed tight end Stephen Anderson to a one-year deal on Monday.

Anderson joins a tight ends room that includes Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams. David Wells, Deon Yelder, Bernhard Seikovits and Alex Ellis are also under contract.
