The Arizona Cardinals met with potential No. 1 overall pick and 2018 Heisman winner Kyler Murray at the University of Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon, as was reported the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson and confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Wilson added that the Cardinals were represented in their meeting with Murray by general manager Steve Keim and head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and the two also met with Oklahoma’s offensive linemen. Cardinals brass did not attend Murray’s pro day last week, as they were expected to meet with him privately.

The timing of the meeting also means that the Cardinals’ top leaders were not at Alabama’s pro day, which was happening on Tuesday as well. There, defensive tackle and highly-touted NFL Draft prospect Quinnen Williams was expected to be available to teams, but would not participate in drills. The Cardinals are also expected to meet with Williams privately.

The Cardinals’ private meeting with Murray furthers speculation that the quarterback could be selected with Arizona’s No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. The Cardinals, who selected quarterback Josh Rosen No. 10 overall a year ago, hired Kingsbury this offseason before old videos surfaced of the former Texas Tech coach offering high praise for Murray.

When asked more recently, Kingsbury clarified his comments on a former opponent.

“I get we have the first pick and there’s going to be a million scenarios over the next three months that are going to come up,” Kingsbury said. “No — Josh is our guy. Kyler is a tremendous player. I said that, was being very complementary before playing an opponent. I understand the soundbite.”

At Murray’s pro day, the 21-year-old threw a few dozen passes but did not run a 40-yard dash, or do drills like the broad jump or vertical. He weighed in at 205 pounds but did not have his height measured. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Murray was measured at around 5-foot-10.
