Tyrann Mathieu to Patrick Peterson: I know you still believe in me

He might be rocking a different uniform, but Kansas City safety Tyrann Mathieu hasn’t forgotten who his real ones are.

After being named as a first-team All-Pro as a defensive back, and second-team as a safety by the Associated Press, Mathieu took to Twitter to acknowledge those who helped him get to this point.

That included Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, defensive backs coach Dave Merritt, general manager Brett Veach, and former LSU and Arizona Cardinals teammate Patrick Peterson.

“Somebody tell Pat P his lil bro did it again,” Mathieu said on Twitter. “I love you boy, I know you still believe in me. That [expletive] carry me.”

When someone mentioned Mathieu’s versatility, the safety took it a step further when mentioning P2.

“I think bout the times I had to watch Pat P battle the top dawgs. Play in & play out,” Mathieu responded.

For Mathieu, 2019 represented his second-best year as a pro, turning in 75 total tackles, four interceptions, two sacks and 12 passes defensed in 16 starts.

The only season better? The safety’s 2015 campaign as a member of the Cardinals.

Playing two games less due to injury, Mathieu erupted for five interceptions, one of which was returned for a score, 17 passes defensed, a forced fumble and 89 tackles, 11 of which were for losses.

In one season at LSU together, the duo of Mathieu and Peterson combined for 99 tackles and six interceptions. As Cardinals teammates for five seasons, the pair compiled 520 tackles to go along with 23 interceptions.
