Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett requests trade

Feb 3, 2025, 10:05 AM

Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett has requested a trade. He released a statement through reporters Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday that said his goal is to chase Super Bowls.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett wrote. “My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”

It comes after Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry last week said the team was not considering trading Garrett, who has made First Team All-Pro in four of the past five years and surpassed the double-digit sack mark in seven straight seasons.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the team is holding firm and wants to keep Garrett despite the public request.

There will be Cardinals fans calling for a Myles Garrett trade

Although Arizona finished tied for 13th with 41 total sacks last year, the team took criticism from the preseason to the end of 2025 for not finding a clear No. 1 edge player.

So there is no doubt Arizona will be in the Garrett conversation immediately after his trade request.

The Cardinals also have a few connections to the star. Quarterback Kyler Murray spent his freshman college season sharing a Texas A&M locker room with Garrett in 2015.

Arizona offensive coordinator Drew Petzing coached the Browns’ tight ends (2020-21) and quarterbacks (2022) before landing with the Cardinals under head coach Jonathan Gannon.

The Cardinals lost their likely top pass-rushing option, BJ Ojulari, to a knee injury before 2024 began. They then lost their in-season leader, Dennis Gardeck, on Oct. 21 to another knee injury.

Zaven Collins led the team with five sacks by the end of 2024, with backup defensive linemen Dante Stills (4.5) and LJ Collier (3.5) finishing behind him.

The Cardinals did make a small splash before the trade deadline, adding Baron Browning into their outside linebacker rotation thanks to a deal with the Denver Broncos.
