It’s a purple twist on an old desert alternate.

The Arizona Coyotes’ Reverse Retro jerseys for next season, which the team revealed on Monday, is an exact replica of the 1999-2003 era alternate with a color scheme change. The base of the jerseys is purple instead of green.

The uniforms feature the franchise’s original Coyotes head logo with gecko patches on each shoulder. The bottom of of the jerseys feature a desert setting — green cacti, orange mountains and the team’s old purple moon logo included.

“We are extremely excited to introduce our new purple Reverse Retro alternate jersey,” Coyotes president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez said in a press release. “We are confident that our fans will love the cool changes to this classic jersey – especially the purple color that was inspired from our crescent moon logo. This is a great opportunity for us to grow our brand with a new unique and innovative jersey and connect with our Coyotes fans and our Coyotes fans in waiting.”

The green alternate was first worn by the Coyotes on Feb. 6, 1999, against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Coyotes gave fans a glimpse at the details of the team’s new Reverse Retro jerseys last Thursday.

That limited sneak peak of an adidas logo and gecko patch on the shoulder at least revealed a light purple color scheme. It’s the first time the Coyotes have purple as the primary color of their jerseys.

All 31 NHL teams are collaborating with adidas on the new “Reverse Retro” jersey line.

It isn’t the only uniform change the Coyotes will be sporting this season.

In October, the team announced that players will wear a Kachina patch in the 25 games they don the classic Kachina jerseys as a way to celebrate the franchise’s 25 years in the Valley.

A Coyotes head patch that features the current logo and Arizona state flag will be attached on the standard red and white jerseys.
