The Arizona Coyotes got two prominent pieces back on the ice Monday, as they activated forward Nick Schmaltz and defenseman Jakob Chychrun off injured reserve.

Arizona also added forward Zack Kassian to injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 1.

Schmaltz had not played since the season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 13, while Chychrun was set to make his season debut Monday against the Nashville Predators.

Chychrun’s return from an ankle injury comes after the 24-year-old said he wanted to be traded on Media Day.

“We talked about at the end of last season, my desire to win in this league,” Chychrun said. “If I wanted to be in a different situation and move on that they were going to be willing to do that and make that happen for me.”

The 2020-21 All-Star’s return will put a spotlight on that request for other teams.

Schmaltz finished second on the Coyotes last season in points with 59, only trailing Clayton Keller. He dealt with an upper-body injury this season.

Kassian has skated in eight games this season, his first with Arizona. He has not played since Oct. 30.
