It will be a while before Arizona Coyotes center Jay Beagle returns to the ice after undergoing surgery on a lower-body injury Thursday, general manager Bill Armstrong told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo.

“We’ve lost [Beagle] now who just had surgery today,” he said. “Had a lower-body injury. [He’s] out long-term, so we’ve been banged up that way.”

That “long-term” time stint Armstrong eluded to will be at least eight weeks and could be as long as the remainder of the regular season, according to Craig Morgan.

The 36-year-old center hasn’t played since Dec. 11 after suffering the lower-body injury.

Beagle only has one point in 21 games played this season that came on a goal in a 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in that Dec. 11 game at Gila River Arena.

In a corresponding move, the Coyotes claimed forward Riley Nash off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

“With Beagle out for us, who was a huge part of our team, Nash can kind of go in there and assume his spot,” Armstrong said.

The Coyotes host the Chicago Blackhawks at 7 p.m. on Thursday night at Gila River Arena.
