GLENDALE – Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan will tie the franchise’s all-time games played mark tonight when he plays in his 1,098th career NHL game versus the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.

Doan will tie former Coyotes captain Teppo Numminen for the games played lead and will become the all-time franchise games played leader when the Coyotes play the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 34-year-old Doan was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets with their first selection (seventh overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently ranked third on the team in scoring (13-27-40), PIM (49) and GWG (3).

Doan had a season-high eight game point streak (6-7-13) from Dec. 23 through Jan. 6 and was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for the week ending Jan.2.

“On behalf of the entire Phoenix Coyotes organization, we congratulate Shane on this impressive milestone,” said Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney. Not many players play their entire career with one franchise so this is a great accomplishment. Shane is a great leader and teammate and we are extremely proud to have him as our captain.”

In 1,097 career NHL games, Doan has recorded (289-429-718) and 1,005 penalty minutes. He has also played in 35 career playoff games, collecting (7-7-14) and 38 penalty minutes.

Doan is the franchise’s all-time leader in game-winning goals (51). He ranks among the top five in Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets franchise history in goals (3rd, 289), assists (3rd, 429 ), points (3rd, 718), PIM (3rd, 1,005) and power play goals (4th, 88).

In 2007-08, he collected a career-high 78 points with a career-high 50 assists for the Coyotes. In 2008-09, he scored a career-high 31 goals.

Doan has played in two NHL All-Star Games during his career (2004 & 2009) and received the 2009-10 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a contribution in his community”. He was also a finalist for the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2009-10.
