The Northern Arizona Suns had their first NBA call-up in team history on Thursday after the Denver Nuggets announced they signed D-League forward Johnny O’Bryant to a 10-day contract.
O’Bryant, in his third season out of Louisiana State, started all 24 games for the Suns. He averaged 18.4 points and 8.6 rebounds in 32.2 minutes per game. He posted 10 double-doubles and was an honorable mention for the D-League showcase.
O’Bryant, a 6-foot-9, 257-pound forward, will be heading to his third NBA team. The Milwaukee Bucks initially drafted O’Bryant with the 36th pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He played 100 games and made 19 starts in a season and change with the Bucks, averaging 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per outing.
The Bucks waived O’Bryant on June 29, 2016. He signed with the Washington Wizards on September 23, but the Wizards waived him a month later after he appeared in four preseason games.
O’Bryant will be active for the Nuggets’ game against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night. He’s the 13th player to received a call-up to the NBA this year.
