QB Herrick receives Scholar Athlete award
Northern Arizona quarterback Michael Herrick has been named one of two recipients of the 2011 postgraduate scholarship presented annually by the Valley of the Sun Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
Herrick, who graduated in December with a degree in fire science, will receive $1,000 toward his future education. He finished his career as NAU’s all-time leader in completion percentage (65.0) and yards per attempt (7.5), while placing in the top five in touchdowns (40), passing yards (6,460) and pass completions (863) and sixth in pass attempts (863).
Herrick will receive the College Scholar Athlete award at the chapter’s annual Scholarship Banquet. Arizona State kicker Thomas Weber and 35 high school football scholar athletes from the Northern and Central Arizona region will also be in attendance.
In 2009, Herrick threw for a school-record 574 yards and four touchdowns against Eastern Washington and was selected for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. He also is a two time Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete recipient.
