TEMPE, Ariz. — From the moment it was learned Drew Stanton practiced on a “limited” basis Thursday afternoon, people started wondering if, maybe, he would be able to play Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks.
Friday, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Stanton would be a game-time decision.
“He’s made good progress,” the coach said. “Did not practice today, but we’ll see if he’s available for Sunday at the game.”
It’s a far cry from even just a few days ago, when it was expected Stanton would be out for at least this Sunday’s game. Wednesday, the quarterback said he wasn’t sure how long he would be out, but was just hoping to continue rehabbing and progressing without any setbacks.
Based on Arians’ comments, it appears he’s done exactly that. If Stanton is able to play, though, the coach said he would be the second quarterback behind Ryan Lindley, who was announced as the starter Monday.
Lindley, who completed 4-of-10 passes for 30 yards in relief of Stanton last week, displayed confidence throughout the week of practice.
“He’s a confident guy to begin with and the guys around him are very confident in him, so that grew as the week went on and as he played well in practice,” Arians said. “I think the other guys get to see it and feel more comfortable.”
The same goes for rookie Logan Thomas, whom Arians has said all week may play Sunday in a specific package.
“He took his package and was very good with it,” Arians said. “We’re very pleased with where he’s at, and if he has to play I feel comfortable with the whole game plan, but his package he looked very good in.”
