LISTEN: Bruce Arians- Cardinals head coach

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Arizona Cardinals will start their fourth quarterback of the year.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday that Logan Thomas will start his first career NFL game Sunday at the San Francisco 49ers, but he won’t hesitate to make a change if the rookie doesn’t perform well.

“We’ll go with Logan, and to be honest with you, I’ll have a quick hook,” Arians told Bickley and Marotta on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Monday.

“I want to see what he’s got with a week of preparation for our future, and into the playoffs what’s the best thing for us.”

Thomas, the Cardinals’ 2014 fourth-round draft pick, saw action in the Cardinals’ Week 5 loss at the Denver Broncos. He had an 81-yard touchdown pass to running back Andre Ellington but did not complete a pass in his other seven attempts.

Thomas came in for one play in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, throwing an incomplete pass in the second quarter.

Thomas will take the place of Ryan Lindley, who completed 18-of-44 passes for 216 yards and an interception in Sunday’s loss.

“It has nothing to do with the way Ryan played. I was very happy with Ryan,” Arians said. “I thought he did his part in the game and a lot of other guys did not.”

Arians said he will take a cautious approach with Drew Stanton, who has started eight games for the Cardinals this season in relief of injured QB Carson Palmer but suffered a knee injury in Arizona’s Week 15 win over the St. Louis Rams.

“Even if Drew is healthy, he will not play in this game,” Arians said.
