Arizona at San Francisco: Through it all, Cardinals have chance to make history

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals franchise was founded in 1898, and their media guide has records dating back to 1920.
Over all that time, the team has never won 12 games in a single season.
On Sunday in San Francisco against the 49ers, the 11-4 Cardinals will have a chance to reach that mark.
“It’s what we’re after,” Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said. “It guarantees us not only that record, but if something were to happen in Seattle, then we would have the bye. So we want to do both those things.”
That the Cardinals can even talk about setting records and postseason byes is pretty impressive, especially when you think about all the injuries the team has suffered. The most high-profile have come at quarterback, where four different players have led the way at various points this season.
“I’d have taken it,” receiver Larry Fitzgerald responded when asked what he would have said if told in the preseason the team would use four different quarterbacks but still have a chance to win 12 games.
“Without a question you take that every day because you know you’re going into the playoffs.”
It’s not exactly how it was drawn up, though.
