Trivia Tuesday: Phoenix Suns’ all-time three-point leaders

On Oct. 12, 1979, Paul Westphal and Don Buse each hit two three-point shots for the Phoenix Suns during a 97-89 season-opening win over the Golden State Warriors.

It was the first game in Suns history that included the three-point shot, which had been used by the defunct ABA years earlier. The “super-shot” (as legendary broadcaster Al McCoy refers to it) didn’t have a big effect on the game immediately. In fact the Suns would make only 68 treys that first year with only 3.9 percent of their total field goal attempts coming from behind the three-point arc.

Oh, how times have changed.

This season, 38 years later, the three-point shot is a big part of the modern NBA. The Suns have made 417 threes over their first 52 games and 26.7 percent of their shot attempts are from long range.

Over the history of the three-point shot, 25 Suns players have made more than 200 during their respective stays in Phoenix. That’s your Trivia Tuesday challenge this week — name them.

A few hints: four players on this list are current Suns. And remember, the three-point shot didn’t exist until 1979, so you won’t find Suns greats Dick Van Arsdale or Connie Hawkins on the list.

You’ve got eight minutes. Good luck!
