WAR? What is it good for?
The Temptations and Edwin Starr might answer that question with a resounding “absolutely nothing.”
But those into baseball’s advanced analytics would disagree. WAR stands for Wins Above Replacement and has become a cornerstone statistic among statheads in determining a player’s value to his team.
Since the team’s inception in 1998, the Arizona Diamondbacks had players register a WAR of 4.8 or better in a single season 31 times.
