There are routine baseball mistakes, and then there’s the screw-up made by infielder Jurickson Profar during Monday’s World Baseball Classic game between the Netherlands and Puerto Rico.
Profar hit a single to right field, moving a runner to third base in the first inning.
Profar started to celebrate his single that didn’t even score a run by walking back to first base waving his arms at his own dugout.
Unfortunately for him, that wasn’t the end of the sequence.
Puerto Rico catcher Yadier Molina noticed Profar wasn’t paying attention and fired the ball to first base, getting the premature celebrator out.
Profar probably learned his lesson, and hopefully realizes a first inning single that doesn’t score a run probably isn’t worth a celebration in the first place.
