Arizona State will welcome back former baseball star Barry Bonds to the Valley next Tuesday when the Sun Devils host UNLV at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
To honor the former player, ASU will wear the adidas-made Baseball Heritage Collection uniforms, throwbacks to Bonds’ time playing under head coach Jim Brock.
“I am extremely humbled and proud that Sun Devil Baseball has chosen to debut a uniform that commemorates my time at Arizona State, as well as that of my teammates and coaches,” Bonds said in a release. “I want to thank coach Tracy Smith and the entire team for this great honor. No matter what era you play in, when you put on that uniform, you truly are a Sun Devil for life and a representative of this great university.”

Bonds, who helped ASU to two College World Series appearances in 1983 and 1984, will throw out the first pitch for the 6:30 p.m. game.
The white jerseys the current Sun Devils will be wearing feature the old-school “Devils” maroon script across the front. The hats are maroon complete with the gold, interlocking “AS” logo.
Great tradition. Even greater future.

Bonds, who graduated from ASU in 1986 with a degree in criminology, was a first-round MLB Draft pick and played 22 seasons. He hit 762 career home runs and won seven NL MVP awards to go with 14 All-Star appearances and eight Gold Glove honors.
The San Francisco Giants announced Monday they have hired Bonds as a special adviser.
“Barry Bonds is a name that is synonymous with Sun Devil Baseball and honoring those that helped forge the legacy of this program is an important part of what we do here at ASU,” Smith in the release. “Barry went on to become one of the greatest players in MLB history, but his journey started right here. We are grateful to have him join us on this special evening.”
