For now, Adrian Peterson is a Minnesota Viking.
For now.
Much has been made about the running back’s situation in Minnesota, with many believing he is going to formally ask for a trade.
Should that happen, the Arizona Cardinals are reportedly one of the teams he would have interest in playing for, and given their lack of success running the ball last season, it’s difficult to imagine the team not reciprocating.
But really, could it happen? Is it possible one of the best running backs in NFL history could make his way to Arizona?
Charles Robinson, a Yahoo! Sports writer who has been dialed into the Peterson drama, says yes.
“I think it’s feasible,” he told Bickley and Marotta on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Thursday. “A couple of things have to happen here. Number one, Adrian Peterson met with (Vikings) ownership earlier this week, and from what I understand he’s still not satisfied with his situation in Minnesota. But there’s a wrinkle here: Adrian Peterson also knows he doesn’t hold the cards here. The only way he could hold the cards here is to not report to the Vikings.”
Robinson said the only way Peterson could create leverage with the Vikings is to convince them he is willing to not report to the team, forgoing the $13 million the team is set to pay him. That would likely include giving up on a $250,000 workout bonus, too, just to show he is serious about being moved.
